2016 AAV ANNUAL CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) is pleased to announce the availability of one paid scholarship (registration AND travel up to $2,000) to assist a veterinarian with financial need from a country outside the United States of America and Canada to attend the annual conference of the Association of Avian Veterinarians. In addition, one separate scholarships for registration fees only (no travel) is offered. To apply for the annual conference scholarship, applicants should follow the instructions as listed below.
Applicants must be veterinarians who are actively involved in avian medicine, aviculture and/or avian conservation work in their country and have a demonstrated dedication to improving the standard of avian medicine, both now and in future. Key selection criteria for the scholarship are:
Applications must be submitted electronically to the AAV Executive Director at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than April 1, 2016.
It is the applicant's responsibility to verify receipt of application. If recipient has not been formally notified of receipt of their application within 7 days of email submission, they should contact the Executive Director directly at email@example.com or 1-201-446-2442. Awarded recipients will be notified via fax or email by May 1, 2016. Scholarships may not be shared.
Applicants must supply the following information in English:
1. Cover letter addressing:
a) the applicant’s interest in avian medicine and surgery, aviculture and/or avian
b) the applicant’s dedication to improve the standard of avian veterinary work in his/her country in the past and in future
c) the applicant’s ability and skills to educate/share information
d) the applicant’s proficiency of the English language.
e) the applicant’s financial need
f) indicate whether the application is for the full scholarship only, or for the registration scholarship as well.
2. Resume which includes at least the following information:
a) Name, photo, age, affiliation, full address including country, email address, telephone and fax number.
b) Veterinary college and year of graduation
c) Nature of current and past professional activities
d) Biography (brief sketch of professional background related to avian medicine)
e) Indicate if currently enrolled in either internship/residency or Masters degree in avian medicine
f) Organization membership (professional, scientific, conservation)
g) Number of years of membership of AAV in consecutive years prior to conference
h) Number of previous attendances in the past 5 years to AAV or related conferences (either in the USA or in Europe or Australia)
i) Number of previous presentations in the past 5 years at AAV or related conferences (either in the USA or in Europe or Australia)
j) Number of previous poster presentations in the past 5 years at AAV or related conferences (either in the USA or in Europe or Australia)
k) List of scientific publications related to avian medicine
3. Proposal for dissemination of information gained at the conference which demonstrates the extent of the impact and benefits that attending the conference would have for the applicant, the applicants co-workers, and for avian medicine on a regional and/or national level
4. Two supporting letters of recommendation (e.g. from local conservation organizations or current active members of the AAV)
5. A short biography of the applicant (maximum of 250 words) which will be published in the AAV Newsletter upon receiving and accepting the scholarship.
The AAV-international committee will rank applications based on the following factors: Cover letter, resume, supporting letters, and fulfilment of the key application criteria as mentioned above. The first place scholarship will receive the full scholarship. One additional applicant may qualify for a registration fee scholarship.
Recipients are furthermore required to write a report of their experience of the conference (maximum 500 words) which will be published no later than 2 newsletters after the conference.
